Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal: Reds Run it Home and Rise Up The Table
After three successive clean sheets Arsenal’s unbeaten run abruptly ended on the cold winter’s night of Saturday the 20th of November. Beaten 4-0 by Liverpool, third in the league with just 1 loss and 7 wins to their name this season. In the current table, Arsenal now sits just outside of the top three, 5 points behind a seemingly stronger Liverpool side.
The first 30 minutes were promising for Arsenal. Dominating possession and starting strong, the team looked more alive than the home side.
28’’- Keeper Ramsdale became one to watch after kick off. In fine form between the sticks, Arsenal’s number 13 spread himself wide to deny Thiago a goal, making a great save from Mane’s follow up to prevent giving Liverpool an early lead.
30’’- Getting stuck in, a run up and shot by Lacazette seemed to deliver the goal a strong Arsenal side deserved. However, the linesman quickly silenced the cheers of fans as it was ruled offside.
31’’- Managers Klopp and Arteta both booked for their bust up on the side-lines after Mane’s rogue elbow hit Tomiyasou. Tensions seemed high at the start with words still exchanged after the scuffle. Differences were set aside, and the argument ended with a disgruntled and hostile handshake between the pair.
It wasn’t long after that cracks started to show in Arsenal’s defence with both the pace of Liverpool’s striker Salah and the technical brilliance of Mane on the left flank proving to be a deadly combination.
35’’- Close range shot from Salah ends with another great save from Ramsdale.
39’’- GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL!! Anfield Stadium erupts. A free kick from Alexander Arnold leads to an outstanding finish by Mane. Too much space given by the gunner’s defence, leaving enough room for Mane head to it in and deliver. The electricity of the home side’s crowd had finally transferred on to the pitch. 1-0 to Liverpool.
45’’- First half ends with Liverpool in the lead.
45’’- A lagging Arsenal side began with a slow start compared to their first half. Although there are some really promising, young players on the team, a lack of experience seemed to have led to Liverpool’s early lead. The Reds came out firing on all cylinders, with players looking optimistic and energetic after the first half. A fresh start for both teams, fans were eager to see what the second half held.
52’’- GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL!! With Liverpool repeatedly winning the ball back high up the pitch, Jota’s goal came with ease and was no surprise. A mistake by Tavares meant a tired Arsenal team paid the price. 2-0 to Liverpool.
72’’- GOAL FOR SALAH- Combination of a cross in from Mane made for a stunning first touch into the net for Salah. A quick burst of pace created distance from an Arsenal defense that now looked lacking motivation. 3-0 to Liverpool.
75’’ SUBSTITUTION- Liverpool: Chamberlain off for Minamino. Jota off for Henderson. 3 minutes after a goal, the first substitution of the game is made by the home side.
76’’- GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL!! On the pitch for just short of 45 seconds and a Trent ball whipped across is enough for Minamino’s fresh feet to bag another goal for the reds. Fans on the away side remain silent. 4-0 to the reds.
90’’- Tyler makes his Premier League debut. With the reds dominating the pitch and the full-time whistle about to blow, this gave time for Klopp to shake things up, allowing the youngsters on the bench to get stuck in.
FULL TIME- Whistle blows. Chants from Liverpool fans ring round Anfield stadium with Arsenal fans up and eager to leave. What started to be a promising game for the gunners, their disjointed play in the second half allowed a win for the reds to be all too easy.
