Creative Collections Digital Advent Calendar Day Thirteen: 'Punkmas' by Gurleen Raj
Gurleen Raj is a BA Graphic Design student at Plymouth College of Art. Her project 'Punkmas' is inspired by a hand drawn painting of punk Santa Gurleen drew when she was at school (first image). It brings back memories which is why she likes to use the illustration at Christmas.
GR: "This piece was inspired by this hand drawn painting of punk Santa back in my school
days which is a nostalgic illustration for me that I like to use on Christmas, using my
graphic skills to create this piece towards my collection of Christmas cards I've been
designing for my first art market.
This piece is going towards my collection of Christmas cards I've been designing for
my first art market where I'll be selling my art, it's an incredible opportunity and I'm
incredibly excited to be the cliche full blown working artist!
Since graduating in the pandemic it's been quite difficult to participate in community
projects like these as everything was shut. Even though the art community hasn't fully
woken up yet it's nice to be a part of the Shangri La art group who are actively helping
artists and designers like me by hosting these events and spaces and offering it for
free or low prices, that's just so not common these days!
Aside from these side gigs I've just been job hunting for entry level positions since my
internships and hoping to find the right studio for me. It's surely has been an exciting
start of the year working with some big agencies and since then I've got the bug to back to the studio"
